Scripture on Friendship and Being Truly Known
Written by the Scripture Nook team · May 21, 2026
"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity."
Friendship is one of the great gifts of life and one of the easiest to neglect. We get busy. We let texts go unanswered. We assume the people who love us will always be there. The Bible takes friendship seriously, David and Jonathan, Ruth and Naomi, Paul and Timothy. None of those friendships happened by accident.
Proverbs 17:17 is a quiet promise about what friendship is for. Not the fair-weather kind. The kind that shows up in the hospital, the funeral home, the divorce, the late-night phone call. That kind of friend is rare. The way to find one is, usually, to become one.
Who in your life has loved you in adversity? Tell them today. A text, a call, a written note. And ask God to make you the kind of friend you wish you had. He is generous with that prayer.
A Prayer
Lord, thank You for the people who have stayed when it was hard. Make me that kind of friend to someone today. Help me show up, listen well, and love without keeping score. Amen.
